El Rufián Dichoso tells the story of the conversion of a man belonging to the Sevillian underworld, Cristóbal de Lugo, servant of the inquisitor Tello de Sandoval. Under the protection of his master, Lugo is free to act as he pleases in the lowest echelons of Sevillian society, with no signs of repentance.
After a temporary ellipsis, Lugo appears as Fray Cristóbal de la Cruz. This sudden change is explained through the intervention of the allegorical characters of curiosity and comedy, who in their conversation explain the change that Lugo underwent when he moved to Mexico with his master until he became the holy man he is now.
Once in Mexico, Cristobal de la Cruz meets Ana de Treviño, a woman who refuses to go to confession on her deathbed because she has been tempted by various devils. Fray Cristobal de la Cruz helps Ana de Treviño to convert and be saved, thus achieving sainthood himself and ascending to heaven, applauded by the Christians.
The performance of Teatro Kumen is part of the Dinamiz-ARTj program promoted by the Institute for Just Transition (ITJ) and the City of Energy Foundation (CIUDEN) to boost cultural activity in municipalities affected by the closure of mining and thermal and nuclear power plants and to promote the careers of young artists living in these territories.
