A tribute to the mining legacy
Composed of 40 black and white images, The Black March is a photographic installation documenting the 2012 mining march, the third and last in the history of the sector in Spain. The protest began with some 200 mining workers from Mieres in Asturias, Villablino and Bembibre in Leon, and Andorra in Teruel. The different groups walked to Madrid, culminating in the massive demonstration on July 11 in the capital, thanks to the way in which the message of resistance, solidarity and belonging to the mining industry spread throughout society.
David Trullo's photographs portray the protagonists of the march, using a black background that isolates the subjects and gives them a timelessness that evokes classic friezes of historical celebration. The exhibition links the collective memories of mining communities with contemporary narratives, inviting reflection on social justice, labor dignity, and economic transformations in industrial regions.
In the words of David Trullo, La marcha negra explores the tension between the individual portrait and the mining legacy of this act of resistance, as an event worthy of memory and reflection in the present. The message of dignity and workers' struggle of the black march exceeded the most optimistic forecasts: Madrid was a before and after this mining march.
Parallel activities
On February 7 at 6:00 p.m., on the occasion of the opening of the exhibition La marcha negra, there will be a filandón with the presence of the artist David Trullo and members of the mining community of the region.
