The Algaire group, originally from Mieres del Camín in Asturias, arose in an industrial region with a strong presence in mining and iron and steel during the 20th century. However, at the beginning of the 21st century, coal mine closures significantly affected the population directly and indirectly linked to these activities.
Although many Mieres residents have family connections to the industry, the end of mining activity drives the preservation and reuse of its rich heritage, which in turn has inspired other artists. Algaire shares this commitment to culture with the production of their album Coral y Maera in the locality, from recording their video clips in emblematic locations to hiring suppliers from the basin for styling or makeup, among others.
Algaire's performance is part of the Dinamiz-ARTj program promoted by the Institute for Just Transition (ITJ) and the City of Energy Foundation (CIUDEN) to boost cultural activity in municipalities affected by the closure of mining and thermal and nuclear power plants and to promote the careers of young artists living in these territories.
