La Térmica Cultural brings prehistoric art to the public through the exhibition Las Huellas de Altamira (Traces of Altamira).

- The opening took place this Friday with a guided tour by the curators, the artists and the director of the Museo Nacional Altamira, Pilar Fatás
- This new exhibition is housed in the Condensadores room and can be visited free of charge
- This Saturday, November 30 at 12:30 a guided tour open to the public will take place free of charge.

La Térmica Cultural hosted this Friday, November 29th, the official inauguration of the exhibition The Footprints of Altamira, a vision of Irene Grau, Lolo Zapico, Paco Chamorro, José Santocildes and María Jesús Manzanares.. The exhibition can be visited free of charge from today until April 30, 2025 in the Condensadores room of La Térmica Cultural, where you can observe the dialogue between contemporary artistic representations and prehistoric cave paintings.

The inauguration included a guided tour in which the details and ins and outs of the exhibition were explained, led by the director of the Altamira National Museum, Pilar Fatás, together with the artists, the curator of the exhibition, Noemí Martínez, and accompanied by the general director, Yasodhara López, and the director of the area of museums, heritage and culture of the City of Energy Foundation (CIUDEN), respectively.

The project The Traces of Altamira shows the work of artists of the current scene and evidences the influence that prehistoric art continues to have on the artistic present. This exhibition thus joins the work of La Térmica Cultural and the City of Energy Foundation (CIUDEN), under the Ministry for Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge (MITECO), to create a pole of attraction through culture in Ponferrada and also promote existing artistic manifestations in the Spanish scene, with special interest to the provincial production.

This project is a further step in the collaboration of the foundation with different cultural institutions throughout Spain. This occasion specifically provides the opportunity to work with the National Museum and Research Center of Altamira. It also favors alliances between different private collections and the artists themselves, thus allowing public institutions to build new narratives and promote the opening to the public of new selections of works and renewed discourses.

This Saturday, November 30, at 12:30 pm, there will be a free guided tour open to the public. To attend it is necessary to book in advance on the web www.latermicacultural.es/agenda or at the reception of La Térmica Cultural.

A selection covering all variants of prehistoric art

The selection of pieces that make up this exhibition belongs to the collection of the Museum of Altamira and the personal collections of the artists. The selection criterion has been based on the theme: prehistoric art. All variants are covered, from tonalities to materials to the motifs represented, and each author reflects one of these variants in his or her own way.

Taking as a starting point the Condensadores room of La Térmica Cultural, a scheme will be followed in which the first space will be dedicated to the interest in prehistoric art; the second space to the work of Irene Grau; the third space to the work of Francisco Chamorro, José Santocildes and María Jesús Manzanares; and finally the last spaces will be reserved for the production of Lolo Zapico.
