- La parábola del carbón is a document theater play produced by La Térmica Cultural together with the company Saltantes Teatro.
- It will premiere in July at La Térmica Cultural in Ponferrada and will travel through the just transition zones.
- Casting will be open from February 15 to March 3 to join the cast of the play.
This morning took place the presentation of The parable of coalthe first performing arts project promoted by La Térmica Cultural, which will be accompanied by the company Saltantes Teatro. Concepción Fernández, director of the area of museums, heritage and culture of the Energy City Foundation (CIUDEN), and Luis Alija, director of Saltantes Teatro, have been responsible for making this presentation to the media.
This project is part of what is called document theater, that is, a work that is open and advances according to the contributions and interviews that the creators receive throughout the process of writing and development of the play. Conceived as an unpublished work and created expressly for La Térmica Cultural, the project is currently in the documentary research phase on its central axis: the Compostilla I thermal power plant and its impact on the city and the region.
The scenic proposal will originate from a short fiction that will serve as a starting point to reflect the heritage left by Ponferrada and El Bierzo in the current generation, explore its history in depth and transfer the experiences that, in turn, will serve as a reflection for other areas of just transition.
In parallel, the project includes the holding of several workshops ranging from interpretation through dance to document theater, lighting and production. The schedule for these workshops will be communicated in due course.
La Térmica Cultural will host the premiere of this production in July and, subsequently, it will begin a tour of different areas of just transition in the country.
Casting call for the cast opening
Cast selection is a critical step in assembling a diverse group to bring the characters to life. The priority profileThe priority profile for participation, although not exclusive, is for people under 35 years of age with a higher degree in dramatic arts and who belong to areas of fair transition. The aim is to provide opportunities for young talents who can bring freshness and authenticity to the play. In addition, the choice of a cast that includes youth from just transition areas reflects the play's commitment to honoring local voices and authentic experiences while providing opportunities and creating a deeper connection between the community's story and the performance on stage. Those interested in participating should send from Thursday, February 15 through Sunday, March 3 (inclusive) their resume, photographs and proof of training and experience in the dramatic arts to laparaboladelcarbon@gmail.com with the subject line "Call for Cast Selection Parabola + FIRST AND LAST NAME".
The selected candidates will be notified by Sunday, March 10 at the latest, and will be called for an in-person workshop that will take place in Ponferrada from Monday, March 25 to Wednesday, March 27. The workshop will consist of practical activities, improvisation exercises and theatrical dynamics led by theater and stage movement professionals. About Saltantes Teatro
After graduating in Dramatic Art at the Escuela Superior de Arte Dramático del Principado de Asturias, Luis Alija from Bierzo and Nerea Vázquez from Gijón founded the professional theater company Saltantes Teatro ten years ago.
