Visual memory of coal and electricity

The province of Teruel has a rich industrial heritage characterized by coal mining and electricity production. In the region of the Cuencas Mineras, the municipality of Escucha stands out, where the lignite from its subsoil was exploited for decades and eventually converted into electricity in its thermal power plant. Escucha. Industry and coal in Teruel reflects the coal-electricity binomial characteristic of this municipality of Teruel.

A selection of photographs from two series are presented: the one taken by Antonio Delgado, photographer and son of a miner, following the last months of work of the last eight miners of Escucha in 2002; and the one taken by José Hinojo, following the life of the thermal power plant of Escucha in his work as head of transportation of the same.

This exhibition will also allow visitors to learn about the mining heritage recovery actions undertaken by the Escucha Town Council with the creation of three visitor centers: the Escucha Mining Museum, the Pozo Pilar Mining Interpretative Center and the Casa Museo de la Familia Minera de Escucha (Escucha Mining Family House Museum).

Also, as part of the virtual reality experience, Turn on the Thermal premieres in Ponferrada a new initiative, now focused on getting to know the Andorra power plant in Teruel. Thus, through virtual reality glasses, visitors will be able to enter, see and operate this iconic facility to live an immersive experience that allows them to enter into the operation of a thermal power plant.
