'Dwelling in memory' and 'Territories of memory'.

12 Oct 2023 - 31 Dec 2023

Together against the oblivion of our peoples

Memory and forgetting in our daily life

Dwelling in memory and Territories of memory are two exhibitions that seek to raise public awareness through painting, illustration or photography about the difficulties encountered by Alzheimer's patients and their caregivers. Several national and international artists contribute their vision of the disease and the role played by memory and forgetfulness in our daily lives in these exhibitions created by the Alzheimer Bierzo Association (AFA Bierzo) in collaboration with the Center for Research in Art and Environment (CIAE) of the Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV).

The exhibition Dwelling in Memory introduces the importance of memory and forgetting in our community, while Territories of Memory explores a clear phenomenon of collective memory loss. Rural depopulation is not only a threat to the survival of traditional customs, community ties and, ultimately, the cultural memory of an entire generation, but consequently hinders communication and social assistance for its inhabitants.

Both exhibitions will be accompanied by a documentary showcase of the latest research on the use of art as a tool against Alzheimer's disease in various audiovisual installations.
