From this Wednesday 24th the Interpretation Center A Mina in As Pontes de García Rodríguez hosts the exhibition Just Transition: Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow.. Thanks to the collaboration agreement between the City Council of As Pontes and the Energy City Foundation (CIUDEN), managing entity of La Térmica Cultural, As Pontes becomes the third stop in the itinerancy of this exhibition, after passing through the Pozo Sotón in Asturias and Peñarroya-Pueblonuevo in Cordoba, thus crossing the Spanish geography from north to south. This exhibition can be visited in the province of A Coruña until April 24, when it will move to another territory of just transition. The opening hours to visit the exhibition will be on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays from 10:00 to 13:30 hours and on Thursdays and Fridays from 16:00 to 19:30 hours.
In addition, this morning the exhibition was visited by the subdelegate of the Government in A Coruña, María Rivas, who was accompanied by Concepción Fernández and Nuria Álvarez, director of the area of museums, heritage and culture and agent of just transition territory in Galicia of the City of Energy Foundation (CIUDEN), respectively. In their tour of the exhibition and complementing it, they have been able to enjoy the virtual reality experience Turn on the Térmicaa 15-minute tour that offers the user a 360-degree guided visit through the facilities of a thermal power plant to learn about its operation, from the arrival of the cargo at the coal park to the inside of the cooling tower.
So far this experience could be enjoyed on the Compostilla II power plant located in Cubillos del Sil (León). However, it is precisely the town of As Pontes that hosts for the first time this experience on the As Pontes power plant. Thus, through virtual reality glasses, visitors will be able to enter, see and operate this iconic facility.
Yesterday, today and tomorrow, a traveling exhibition
This exhibition, created by La Térmica Cultural in Ponferrada, premiered on March 31 coinciding with the inauguration of this facility and is part of a collection of temporary exhibitions designed to bring art and culture to areas of just transition.
The temporary exhibition Just Transition: Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow brings the visitor closer to the reality of the areas immersed in the energy transition processes and the strategies adopted by these territories, with an eminent industrial past, to adapt to the new context. Thus, the exhibition reflects how to face the economic, social and climatic challenges of the present, but without forgetting the past, preserving the mining and energy identity and seeking the opportunity to make this past compatible with the search for alternatives for the future. This is the spirit of this participatory exhibition that narrates the impact and adaptation models of the territories in transition so that they can be understood by a wide public. The exhibition consists of 27 panels with photographs by Eduardo Urdangaray, creator and head of the Mining History Archive and photojournalist with a career spanning more than 30 years.
